FAQ on the early change of first name and gender entry for Paderborn University students
Who can apply for an early change of first name and gender entry?
- Persons who are enrolled as students at Paderborn University at the time of the application and who wish to have their first name and/or gender details changed prematurely, i.e. before an official enrolment by the registry office, can submit the application independently in the PAUL campus management system under the field "Studies" - "Applications"
What documents are required for the application?
- The completed application form "STS change of gender"
- A dgti supplementary ID card, which is an additional document containing the personal data you have chosen and a news passport photo and is linked to your ID card in the form of your ID card number. You must also submit this supplementary ID digitally when applying for an early change of first name and/or gender entry.
-
You can apply for the dgti supplementary ID card online from the German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality (dgti) at the following link (cost: €19.90): https://ea.dgti.info/ea/eaonline/index.php.
-
You can also find more information about the document here.
-
-
The associated self-declaration ("Obligatory declaration when applying with a dgti supplementary ID"), which states that Paderborn University is indemnified against all claims that may arise due to the chosen changed gender/first name entry and the use of corresponding documents, must be confirmed within the application.
What does the application process look like?
-
As soon as you have submitted the application in full, i.e. including self-declaration and proof of the dgti supplementary ID, it will be processed by the Student Services staff.
-
If the application is approved, some of the changed information will be automatically adjusted in the Paderborn University's (electronic) data entry systems. Some details must be adjusted manually by you. You can find an overview of this in the IMT HelpWiki.
What do I have to consider when applying?
-
Your application can only be processed by the Registrar's Office if you submit all the documents required for the application. Therefore, please ensure that you submit both the dgti supplementary ID card and the required self-declaration ("Mandatory declaration when applying with a dgti supplementary ID card") during the digital application process in PAUL.
What consequences does the change of details have for my semester ticket?
- Please note that the semester ticket is generally valid for one semester and must be reissued if the registered first name and surname change. To do this, you must have the semester ticket reissued via the OnlineTicket procedure as soon as your details have been changed. You can find instructions for this ordering process here.
- It is also important that you always use the first name and surname stored in PAUL to order the semester ticket. It is therefore crucial that the requested change of first name and/or gender details has already been implemented via the Student Secretariat before you have the semester ticket reissued. You can check this in PAUL under "My data" - "Personal data".
- The semester ticket adapted to the changes you have made will be made available electronically within 48 hours of completing the outlined ordering process. Your previous ticket will then automatically lose its validity.
