Paderborn University is represented for the first time in the subject rankings of the World University Rankings of the higher education magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE) and has directly achieved very good results in several disciplines in the 2025 edition. The university achieved above-average international rankings in the categories of computer science, engineering, economics, education and natural sciences, as well as in the humanities and cultural studies. The ranking, which takes into account over 2,000 universities from 115 countries and territories, is one of the most renowned international university rankings.
Very good results in Computer Science and Engineering
In the subject areas "Computer Science" and "Engineering", Paderborn University is internationally ranked in the 201-250 and 301-400 groups respectively. Paderborn University's economics are also successful in international comparison, achieving a ranking of 301-400. Paderborn's educational sciences are also ranked in the 301-400 group worldwide, while the humanities and cultural sciences are in the 401-500 group. With an international ranking in the field of 501-600, the performance of Paderborn's natural sciences is also recognised.
In the overall ranking of THE World University Rankings 2025, Paderborn University is placed in the 501-600 group, with particular emphasis on the university as a whole in the categories of research environment (280th place) and industrial cooperation (340th place), which emphasises the high academic level and close links with industry.
