Citizen science in the hydrogen bus
On Friday, 21 June, our scientists will take all interested parties on an exciting and entertaining journey into the world of hydrogen. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., they will be conducting experiments on this energy carrier together with the public. What's special: The experiments and short presentations will take place in the eCITARO fuel cell, which the PaderSprinter will park on the town hall square. Mercedes-Benz delivered the electric bus with range extension using hydrogen fuel cells to Paderborn as the first of its kind in the world.

Experiments on Paderborn's town hall square
The hands-on event is part of the nationwide Hydrogen Week, during which companies, universities, initiatives and cities are inviting visitors to a wide range of events relating to the energy carrier from 15 to 23 June. The focus will be on hydrogen in all its facets and with the full range of possible applications: Mobility, transport, production, storage and infrastructure.
On Rathausplatz, participants will be able to familiarise themselves with one of the most promising energy technologies of the 21st century by operating a small hydrogen car and discovering how a fuel cell works in a fun way. They will also produce hydrogen themselves under the guidance of the experts - sustainably and climate-friendly on the basis of water.
Prof. Dr Matthias Bauer and Dr Roland Schoch, who are dedicated to the topic in numerous research and teaching projects at Paderborn University, are looking forward to the event: "The global demand for energy and mobility must be met without producing substances that are harmful to the climate. Otherwise, we will not be able to achieve the climate targets we have set ourselves. We are delighted that this topic is so popular, especially among younger people. With this event, we want to make our contribution to this and bring the potential of hydrogen to life."
